Every time there is a little car crash that kills a couple people, or a single insignificant case of molestation in the UK,etc- Somebody insists on posting there relatively INSIGNIFICANT stories on the “current events page”. WHY? I’m sick and tired of seeing this UNIMPORTANT AND LOCAL stories posted on what is supposed to be an current events page.
Over the last year I’ve read dozens and dozens of EXTREMELY MINOR stories posted by UK’ers on this page. I click to read them, thinking there may be some interesting fact or reason this is on the CURRENT EVENTS PAGE.
People die everyday in car crashes, kids are molested, THIS HAPPENS EVERY DAY. This is not news. Please to all those from the UK and europe, PLEASE STOP SPAMMING THIS PAGE WITH INAPPROPRIATE MATERIAL.
Some of this stuff wouldn’t even make it to the local news if it happened where i live.
Is it news? Somewhere, yes. Is news a “Current event”? Yes. Is it in fact located in the United Kingdom? Yes. So… yea, seems like it is the right stuff in the right place.
I would ignore this user. They clearly know nothing about Wikinews. We don’t even have a current events page.
One of the misc bots imports it to Wikpedia. I’m sure they wandered over to bitch about the bot.

Your argument is poor. This is the internet, international. This kind of stuff belongs on clickondetroit.com , not on a general current events page.
If everybody posted these kind of stories, from all over the world- one would have to sift through numerous irrelevant articles in order to find important ones.
The very reason i reason wiki-current events is for that reason. WHAT IS GOING ON IN THE WORLD TODAY- IN A NUTSHELL.

I posted a very simple question. Why is irrelevant local news on the current events page? It’s the same as spamming.
Logical Suggestion: Don’t post unimportant local news on a world news page.

But you said it was a page for news on the United Kingdom? This happened in the UK so it is local to the UK.
How the hell is that spamming? It’s all news. News from the East Coast (of the US) is irrelevant to me.
Besides MY CAPSLOCK out of irritation, i feel that my argument is completely rational. I just wanted whoever posted this story to think about whether it belongs on a current events page.

What would you call “news?” Anything can be thought of as local.
Just a comment from an uninvolved user (if the IP address is still around after all this): There is nothing in our policies that prevents us from writing about current events (See in particular the content guidelines, which basically say “News must be relevant” – which is generally interpreted broadly – no mention prohibiting local stories as long as they are explained properly for a global audience). I’m personally of the opinion that we should focus more on major international stories – as that likely would attract more readers – but we still allow local reporting.
Local reporting is all fine and dandy. However, the number of local UK stories is disproportionate to local US stories. Only 2 times I’ve seen Detroit on this page, the Christmas bomber and when Kwame went to jail. Nuff said.
You wanna see Detroit? Write about Detroit! Believe me, we’d welcome it.
Unfortunately this group is unpaid, so they write about what interests them, rather than what an editor tells them to write. Additionally, you are comparing one US city, to an entire country. Of course there is going to be more stories about the UK than Detroit. If you look at Category:United States you will find 5,280 stories (1 mile worth, how coincidental is that?) and in Category:United Kingdom you will find 1,827 stories. So there is significantly more stories for the US.
